DI School Moving to DIII

2810_medium

Centenary (Louisiana), a member of the Summit League Conference has voted to move from Division I to Division III once their contract to the Summit League is over.

The move is an effort to improve the financial structure of the institution along with being able to focus more on academics. Recently, the school has been penalized by the NCAA for poor academic performance. If they move to Division III, academics can hopefully improve and make sure their student-athletes are meeting their academic requirements and are performing on and off the court.

The process to change divisions takes four years, but a school can apply for a waiver after two years if they meet all of the requirements. The school will apply for reclassification in spring 2010.
