NIT Final

Wichita State vs Alabama in the "Little Dance" championship tonight.  Can the Shockers take down the Tide in this year of the "mid major?"   They are the deeper team, and I suspect that may prove decisive this evening.

I must admit that I am a big follower of the NIT, have followed it closely for nearly as long as I've followed college basketball (which despite my relative youth still goes back over 20 years).    There's something interesting about the whole thing.  Teams that are arguably among the top 30-35 in the country, not being able to play for the National Title, but finding motivation to play for a prize nonetheless.  Until recent years, it also seemed to offer more chance for the "little guys" - though the ever since George Mason (if not earlier) we have had our share of success in the NCAA's.

 

(Also as a historian of the game - the NIT's legacy is pretty awesome.  I mean up until the late 50's it was arguably more prestigious to win and even into the 70's it was a really big deal.  I mean Al Maguire skipped the NCAA's for it back in the day!)

So, I will be tuning in tonight - a huge Shocker fan.  Let's go WSU!

would love to see wichita state beat bama.

maybe we can have a mid major team win the NIT and NCAA championships. Wichita put a beating down on wazzou too.

WSU has a great program

They absolutely manhandled the Cougars.

I’ve really become an admirer of the way they run things up there the last few years. Coaching turnover doesn’t seem to bother them either. I believe they’d appreciate the NIT title more than Alabama – another reason to pull for them tonight.

So as their fans say – Let’s go Shox!

antoine " the big dog " carr who played for the jazz played at wichita state.

he played for some other teams but his best years were with the jazz. he was the first big dog too. glenn robinson was many years later.

Bama by 1. Good game to this point. Shockers absorbed an early 7-0 run by the Tide pretty well.

last year dayton had a great run in the NIT and won the championship over i think North Carolina?

I'm predicting VCU vs Kentucky in the NCAA. VCU getting 2.5 points vs butler.

The vegas oddsmakers have already said if it's VCU vs Kentucky it will be VCU getting 5 points in that game.
