The usual names are on the Naismith Award watch list, and then there is Kevin Pangos. We don't disagree with his inclusion; we are just shocked that he got the nod as one of the 50 names.
No surprises here, but the usual suspects are all on the Naismith Early Season Watch List released Tuesday.
Doug McDermott: check.
C.J. McCollum: check.
Tony Mitchell: check (although how long we need to watch might be in question).
Nate Wolters: you bet!
OK, so there is one surprise on this list. Not that we disagree with the belief that the Gonzaga point guard is worth of consideration. It is more that if you asked me what teams had multiple players on the 50-man list, the Bulldogs wouldn't have been among my first five guesses.
Pangos and Elias Harris both made the list, and given the Zags performance to start the tip-off marathon, they might have earned some extra points.
And keep in mind that this is just an "early" list, but I would be very surprised if someone not listed here were to end up being the Naismith winner at the end of the season, since all of the "favorites" for that honor make an appearance.
