Zay Jackson Rejects New Deal, Case Goes to Grand Jury

Zay Jackson rejected a one-year sentence from the new judge on his case today, according to the Paducah Sun.

The Murray State guard had his previous plea deal thrown out by judge Craig Clymer, a deal that would have had him spending 30 days in jail on weekends only. In its place, Clymer substituted a new deal of one year in jail.

The case will now proceed to a grand jury with the original charge of second-degree assault.

The grand jury will convene on Dec. 6 and Jackson will return to court on Dec. 11 to hear the new charges against him.

Depsite the loss of Jackson, who was expected to start this season, and several key starters from last year's 31-2 team, the Racers are 3-1, and reached the finals of the Charleston Classic. Murray State lost to Colorado 81-74 in the championship game. The Racers next face Old Dominion on Saturday.
