With the NCAA trying to create a more offensive game by discouraging defensive hand-checks, it will be interesting to see how VCU reacts. VCU thrives on their intense defense which frequently uses the double team and makes a lot of contact. VCU is a very good mid-major team that will certainly finish in the top 3 in the Atlantic 10. But it will be interesting to see if the increase in foul calls cost VCU any close games. More fouls means more trips to the free-throw line for the other team, which means more points against, and less turnovers. I doubt it will have a major effect on the Rams, but you have to wonder what kind of effect these fouls calls could have on a tight, important, late-season A-10 game against say St. Louis, La Salle, or UMass.
