Canisius edges Elon


Piscataway, NJ - After dropping a contest to host Rutgers, Canisius regrouped and defeated Elon 86-84 in he Pre-Season NIT . battling back from a seven point deficit with four minutes remaining, the Golden Griffins emerged victorious as Billy Baron buried a three pointer at the buzzer. The Rutgers Athletic Cnter contest saw 10 ties and7 lead changes.

"It was a hard fought game and our bench came through for us," Canisius coach Jim Baron said. On the final possession with Elon ahead by two there was no playing for overtime. "Billy (Baron) knew what to do," Jim Baron Sid. "He is a senior and a veteran."

Billy Baron led Canisius with 21 points. Luke Eddy and an excellent post player , Kucas Troutman, tied for scoring honors with 23 each for Elon.

Jim Baron was especially pleased following road losses to St. Bond entire on Saturday and Rutgers Monday.

Canisius received 27 points from their bench with PHIL Valenti leading the way with nine points.

A 118 offensive efficiency and a loss? That is what happened as Elon posted a 118 for 72 possessions. Canisius was just a bit better with an outstanding 121 for 71 possessions.

Elon not only had Troutman in the post, they had a perimeter game hat was 9 of 19 from three (47 per cent).

Canisius was 4 of 15 for 27 percent with Baron's only three in four attempts coming a the buzzer.
