Denny Medley-US PRESSWIRE

The Spartans are making the transition from the WAC to Mountain West next year, they'll also have a new leader for their program.

San Jose State has fired head coach George Nessman after 8 years with the Spartans. Nessman was 86-161 at SJSU and had a record of 9-20 this year.

The Spartans ended their season yesterday losing to UT-San Antonio 67-49 in the WAC tournament in Las Vegas. It was also the fourteenth loss in a row for SJSU.

The high point in Nessman's career was 2011 when the Spartans went 17-16 and earned a CBI birth.

San Jose State will transition from the WAC to the Mountain West this summer, so the opening could bring a good crowd of candidates in Silicon Valley.

Nessman was formerly an assistant at Cal and was the head coach at two junior colleges from 1993-2004.
