The 16 year assistant will lead the Kangaroos into their first season of WAC play.
UMKC will transition from the Summit League to the WAC this summer and they have chosen Kareem Richardson as the man to do so. UMKC fired Matt Brown last week after an 8-24 campaign this year.
Richardson has been an assistant coach and is in his first year at Louisville. The 37 year old coach was the top assistant at UMKC in 2007-08. He has also spent time at Xavier, Evansville, Indiana State, Wright State and the University of Indianapolis before coming to Louisville.
An official announcement is expected to made next Monday from UMKC. Richardson is expected to stay on with Louisville throughout their NCAA tournament run, the Cardinals are a number one seed in the East Region.
Richardson is the 22nd Rick Pitino assistant to move onto the head coaching ranks.
