Tom Herrion Bought Out at Marshall

USA TODAY Sports

Tom Herrion is out at Marshall after two straight losing seasons and some off the court issues from his team.

Marshall has bought out head coach Tom Herrion's remaining two years on his contract. Herrion is owed just over $570,000 and he will most likely receive that amount in a lump sum.

Herrion was 67-67 as the head coach at Marshall and had some highly hyped teams, like last year's squad with DeAndre Kane, but never really broke through. The Thundering Herd was 11-22 this year and lost to Old Dominion in the second round of the Conference USA Tournament.

Herrion, who first two seasons at Marshall were 20+ win campaigns, came to Marshall after being the associate head coach for Jamie Dixon at Pittsburgh. Prior to Pittsburgh he was the head coach at the College of Charleston and was an assistant for Pete Gillen at Virginia and Providence.

Marshall is still in search of making the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1987. The next hire could show how committed the Herd is to their basketball program.
