Coaching Carousel: Jacksonville Hires IPFW's Tony Jasick As New Head Coach

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Spor

Jasick brings recent winning success to a Jacksonville program that desperately needs something.

The Jacksonville Dolphins wasted no time once the 2013-14 college basketball season officially concluded Monday. According to The Florida Times-Union, Jacksonville has reached a deal to hire IPFW head coach Tony Jasick to the same position with the Dolphins.

This comes a few weeks after Jacksonville fired Cliff Warren following a 12-14 season and opening round loss in the Atlantic Sun Tournament.

Jasick, recently named the Hugh Durham Mid-Major Coach of the Year, just concluded his third season with the Mastodons, a 25-11 campaign which saw IPFW fall to North Dakota State in the Summit League finals and head to the CIT. The 25 wins and a CIT victory, were both program records.

Over his three years, the Mastodons went 52-47, putting Jasick fourth on IPFW's list of coaching wins. But the Whitehall, Mich. native's success doesn't just end with X's and O's. MMM's own Steph Crandall tabbed Jasick as the Sexiest Coach in Mid-Major basketball.

Although leading scorer Jarvis Haywood has reportedly left the program and starters Keith McDougald, Javon Dawson and Vince Martin have finished their careers, the Dolphins will be in good hands when it comes to recruiting. Jasick's IPFW roster held five players from the Sunshine State, including leading scorers Luis Jacobo (originally from Stetson) and Steve Forbes.

At the moment, the Jacksonville 2014 recruiting class holds commitments from Antwon Clayton and Amir Warnock.

Former Dolphins commit Tim Bond is now headed to Eastern Michigan. Originally a Jacksonville signee as well, Jaylen Adams was given his release.

It will be interesting to see how that will play out, but for now it's another job crossed off (and added to) the Coaching Carousel list.
