Horizon League Second Round Recap

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

In a night of wire to wire wins, Milwaukee and Wright State move on to the semi-finals

The Horizon League second round was played in Green Bay's Resch Center tonight and blow outs were in order as Wright State beats Oakland and Milwaukee dominates Valparaiso.

In the first game Wright State dismantled Oakland to the tune of 73-57. The Raiders held the Grizzlies to 40.9% shooting from the field and 29.2% from three point range. Oakland certainly didn't help themselves either with 12 turnovers and 51.9% shooting from the free throw line.

The Raiders were led by team highs of 20 points and 6 rebounds from Miles Dixon. They out rebounded the Grizzlies 31-23 and shot 47.4% from three point range.

Matt Vest led a stifling defensive effort on First Team All-Conference Player Travis Bader holding the three point specialist to 3-8 from behind the arc and only 20 points. Vest also contributed 11 points and 4 assists.

Bader ends his career with the NCAA record for most three point makes in a career with 504.

In the second game, Milwaukee jumped out to a 9-0 lead and didn't look back, winning 74-57. Out-hustling, outrebounding, and just overall looking like a team that wanted to be on the court the Panthers kept the Crusaders off the offensive boards and collected 19 of their own. For the game Valparaiso only had 19 total rebounds.

Fresh off a hair cut, Matt Tiby led the Panthers attack with 18 points and 7 rebounds while shooting 11-11 from the free throw line. According to Tiby "people were talking too much about the hair". Tiby was helped by 20 points by Jordan Aaron despite shooting 6-18 from the field.

The Crusaders who were held to 39 shots from the field were led by 18 points from freshman forward Alec Peters.

Wright State moves on to play Cleveland State, who earned a double bye into the semifinals, tomorrow at 7 PM EST. Milwaukee will face the tournament host, Green Bay, at 9:30 PM EST. The Milwaukee-Green Bay game will air live on ESPN U and the Wright State-Cleveland State game will be aired in tape delay following the conclusion of the 9:30 game.
