70 Shots Later, Cleveland State Takes Out Bowling Green in NIT

Bowling Green's A'uston Calhoun scored 30 points and helped push Cleveland State to overtime in the opening round of the NIT Season Tip-Off. It wasn't enough as Tim Kamczyc led the Vikings past the Falcons 79-73

When Cleveland State went into its game against Bowling Green, it didn't count on having Anton Grady for less than half of it. The much-hyped sophomore fouled out after playing just 20 minutes, and the Vikings could have sure used him.

Instead, A'uston Calhoun was free to torch Cleveland State for 30 points, and single-handedly kept the Falcons alive in the opening round of the NIT Season Tip-off. Bowling Green pushed the Vikings to overtime, but ultimately fell 79-73.

The other four starters for Cleveland State all played more than 40 minutes which might have contributed to their dismal 38.6 percent shooting. The Vikings launched 70 shots, including 20 from behind the arc. That might have saved them as they hit nine from long range.

Tim Kamczyc was the top scorer for Cleveland State, going 8-for-21 from the floor including 5 of 10 from long range, on his way to 21 points. He also had seven rebounds as he and Marlin Mason (13 rebounds) helped clean up the shooting mess the team was creating.

Without Calhoun though, this game would have been over long before the extra five minutes. The senior was 12-for-17 from the floor and had seven rebounds in 40 minutes for the Falcons.

Cleveland State will move on to face the winner of Michigan and IUPUI with a chance to move on to Madison Square Garden.
