Jackie Carmichael Scores 27, Illinois State Hits 100 Vs. UCSB

We got some odds looks and comments when we selected Jackie Carmichael to our preseason All-American list (second team, but All-American still). Yes, it seemed like a stretch at the time, but if he has more games like Monday night, it could happen.

The Illinois State senior scored 27 points on 13 of 20 shooting, pulled down 10 rebounds and added 2 blocks as the Redbirds defeated UCSB 100-72. Tyler Brown added 22 points in the win, and was 4-for-7 from 3-point range.

The Gauchos got 22 points from Taran Brown, and sophomore Alan Williams added 15 points and 13 rebounds, but he shot just 6-for-14 from the floor. UCSB is now 0-2 on the year despite the promise that Williams shows for leading the team.

But it is hard to compete when one player on the other side is so dominant in what he is doing. This is what we expected out of Carmichael when we made our crazy ballot. After just one night, he hasn't disappointed us yet.
