Shaquille Stokes is Eligible for Hofstra

After the NCAA granted Shaq Stokes a hardship waiver, the majority of Pride fans are stoked to see Stokes ahead of Stevie Meija on the stats sheet.

Hofstra scored a big victory for its backcourt today, as the NCAA granted sophomore transfer Shaquille Stokes a hardship waiver, making the former Hawaii guard eligible to compete for the Pride this season.

As a freshman for Hawaii last year, in roughly 20 minutes per game, Stokes averaged 8.4 points and 2.2 points per game, stats that would normally be seen as positive building blocks for a freshman. Yet his abysmal field goal percentage (33.2%), poor assist-to-turnover ratio (barely above 1:1), and negative HOOPWAR (-0.12) leave his game in question.

This year will be an interesting jumping off point for Stokes's future collegiate career; in the Hofstra Blue-White scrimmage he dropped 25 points, and he will come in as Hofstra's leading scorer after the Pride lost their top three scorers to graduation.

Stokes figures to play a ton of minutes at the 1 and 2 positions, providing the Pride with a far superior number-one guard option to Stevie Meija, but only time will show just how much success the newest member of Hofstra's squad will experience.

The first test will come when the Pride travel to Monmouth to begin their season on Friday at 7 PM.
