Four Long Island Players Arrested After Fight

Joe Camporeale-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

According to several news sources in New York, four members of the Long Island University basketball team have been arrested in connection with a fight that occurred at a party.

The arrests included senior forward Jamal Olasewere and returning NEC player of the year Julian Boyd, both of whom were named to our preseason top 10 players list back in August. CJ Garner and Troy Joseph were also arrested, meaning three of the Blackbirds top scorers from last season found themselves in jail.

The four players have been suspended from the university pending their appeal which should come within the next week.

The details of the fight are still sketchy at this point. According to the Blackbird Hoops Journal (who has been on this since the beginning) the fight occurred at a back to school party in a dorm on campus. The New York Post reported that the fight was between the basketball players and members of the track team. However, the Hoops Journal has said that the University is denying that the other party in the fight was the track team.

We will update more as we find out, and will provide analysis of the decimated Blackbird lineup (if the players are held out for long) later tonight.
