Montana's Will Cherry Reportedly Out 6-8 Weeks

Montana's top defender and conference player of the year candidate Will Cherry is out for 6-8 weeks after reportedly breaking his foot. This has impacts from the national level on down to the conference race in the Big Sky.

Montana, you are so sneaky! Apparently the Grizzlies snuck a little note into their schedule release stating that star player Will Cherry was recently injured and will miss 6-8 weeks.

The keen eyes over at Big Sky Basketball weren't going to miss this though.

According to tweets from Missoula reporter Shaun Rainey, it could be a broken foot. That type of injury not only could derail the start of his season, but could severely impact his ability to play at the level he has shown in the past.

Cherry was inspired by former conference mate Damian Lillard, who turned a very productive season in the Big Sky into a first round selection in the NBA Draft. His goal was to do the same this year, and he was already looked at as a player of the year candidate in the conference, along with one of the top 100 players in the country.

On a national level, this is a loss, but it is even more of an impact on the conference level. Montana was the odds-on favorite, but this makes the race a lot tighter.
