Hofstra earned its first conference win Monday night, a 52-50 win over Georgia State that was very much not expected.
Stevie Mejia led the Pride with 17 points on 7 of 12 shooting from the floor and Taran Buie backed him up with 12. The key last night was that Georgia State couldn't shoot the ball, making only 36 percent of their shots and just 10 percent from behind the 3-point line (2-for-20).
The issues with Hofstra are well known. This win breaks an eight-game losing streak for the Pride that dates back before the times of trouble on Long Island.
That said, Hofstra can take pride that they were featured in kind of a back-handed compliment way in a comic strip this morning.
The Wizard of Id, written by John Hart Studios, had a nice little basketball-flavored piece with appropriate timing given the results of last night's game.
Way to go Hofstra.
We kid because we love.
