The Oakland Golden Grizzlies are set to kick off their inaugural year in the Horizon League, but now Greg Kampe's squad will do it with Ryan Bass. The school announced Bass' departure in a brief statement yesterday:

Oakland's Ryan Bass has left the men's basketball team due to reasons unrelated to his athletic participation or academic performance, announced head coach Greg Kampe on Tuesday.

Given university policy and federal student privacy laws, Oakland Athletics is not able to provide any further details at this time.

Bass, a 5'9 point guard, averaged over 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists a year ago. He was slated to start for a talented Oakland team that will feature sharpshooter Travis Bader and big man Corey Petros.

The Golden Grizzlies will kick off their year with one of the nation's toughest slates with road games at North Carolina, UCLA, Gonzaga, and California during the first two weeks of the season.
