Today, Murray State announced that guard Zay Jackson will leave the Racers program and transfer immediately. This comes after a long and unusual past.
Back in October of 2012, Jackson was charged for assault after hitting two people with his car in a Wal-mart parking lot. This arrest led to a 60 day jail sentencing and a suspension for the entire 2012-2013 season. The story is a long and confusing one which includes blown plea deals, switching of judges, grand juries, and more.
Then, the troubled guard had his return set for this season but that was postponed another season when he tore both his ACL and LCL during practice earlier this October.
Before the suspension and injury, Jackson averaged 4.9 ppg and 2.3 apg while backing up Isaiah Canaan in 2011-12.
In a release from Murray State, Jackson said "I want to thank Coach Prohm for giving me an opportunity to play basketball at Murray State, and for his support during my time as a Racer. With my injury causing me to miss a second season now, I just believe a fresh start would be good for me."
