Belmont, Mann Stun #12 North Carolina 83-80

After an incredible come from behind victory against Indiana State earlier this week, J.J. Mann and the Belmont Bruins shocked the North Carolina Tar Heels tonight on the road.

Rick Byrd and his magical sweater vest was at it again Sunday evening in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. After a crazy week for Belmont in which they lost at Richmond and then had an incredible second half comeback to beat Indiana State at home, the Bruins took down twelfth ranked North Carolina tonight 83-80.

Belmont went into the game at halftime up 41-34, but the Tar Heels would storm back in the second half to take a 62-60 lead with 8:26 left in the game. North Carolina would grow their lead to eight points and keep it that high until the 2:37 mark with a James Michael McAdoo layup.

Despite a cold performance from behind the arc (2-11), J.J. Mann would keep firing from deep and hit three straight three pointers in the last 63 seconds, all three of which were assisted by Reece Chamberlain. Mann's shot with three seconds left would be the game winner and he would finish the night with 28 points and 9 rebounds.

It was the first loss for the Tar Heels in 66 straight non-conference home games. Roy Williams' squad missed 26 free throws on the evening.

Belmont now moves to 3-1 on the season and will face off against crosstown rival Lipscomb for the second time this season. The Bruins beat the Bison 87-83 on opening night a little more than a week ago.
