Fordham announced Monday that the Rams will be without center Ryan Canty for an undetermined amount of time due to a leave of absence. Canty will be taking this time to address a personal issue.
Through the Rams' 2-1 start, Canty averaged 3.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in 13 mpg. He saw the most time, but no points, in a 89-74 loss to Syracuse in which Ryan Rhoomes and Travion Leonard got into foul trouble. Last season he blocked a team-leading 28 shots.
"We want only what is best for Ryan Canty as he addresses these issues," said coach Tom Pecora in a school release. "We will continue to support Ryan in any way we can. We ask that everyone respect his privacy at this time and we wish Ryan and his family the best as he moves forward."
Pecora's squad battles Sacred Heart on Saturday (Nov. 23) and then Manhattan on Tuesday (Nov. 26). It has yet to be seen how much time the junior center will miss, but the lack of his inside presence will be felt.
