Jackrabbits' Wolters Drops 53 On Fort Wayne

South Dakota State's Nate Wolters and Indiana-Fort Wayne's Frank Gaines spent the first half of Thursday night's game putting on a show, combining for 29 points - almost half of the 66 that were scored up to that point. There were threes, jumpers, layups, free throws, the gamut.

The two were carrying their teams - Wolters scored nine straight for the Jackrabbits to push his total to 26 for the game, while Gaines had racked up 18 of his own, all by the time IPFW had taken a timeout with just under ten and a half minutes left to play, holding a 50-47 lead.

Even though he was ridiculous tonight, @natewolters would be the first to tell you it was a team win.

That may indeed be true - nobody can put up a line like that completely by himself - but what happened next was insane. Over the final 10:15, Wolters shot 8-of-9 from the field overall, 5-of-6 from three point range, and 8-of-8 from the free throw line, for a total of 29 points. Thats a ridiculous pace that would have netted him 113 points over the full 40 minutes (that's right, Wolters played the entire game).

For another bit of perspective, as of the writing of this article, there are six teams who finished the night scoring fewer points than Wolters did by himself - and Canisius just barely made it (54).
