Drake Fires Mark Phelps

The Bulldogs will be looking for a new coach for the first time since 2008.

Mark Phelps has been fired at Drake in an announcement from athletic director Sandy Hatfield Clubb. Phelps spent five seasons at the helm for the Bulldogs and amassed a 77-86 record.

Drake had two winning seasons under Phelps and were never able to hit 20 wins, a mark Keno Davis hit in one year before heading to Providence.

The Bulldogs went 15-17 this year and lost to Creighton in the second game of the Missouri Valley tournament, after beating Bradley in the first round.

Phelps was an assistant at NC State and Arizona State before coming to Des Moines.

Drake is not one of the easiest jobs in the country, due to their academic prowess, but the MVC job should be an attractive one.
