The dominoes continue to fall in conference realignment. Earlier this week Butler and Xavier formally announced they would be leaving the Atlantic 10 for the Big East. In response to that move the Atlantic 10 will add George Mason according to multiple sources.
George Mason is expected to make an official announcement Monday. The Patriots are a charter member of the Colonial Athletic Association and have been with the conference since 1979 when it was known as the ECAC South. Last year the Patriots were rumored to be moving to the A-10 with VCU and Butler but remained in the CAA.
Leaving the A-10 next year will be Butler, Xavier, Temple, and Charlotte. George Mason is the first additive effort for the conference. The CAA will not only lose Mason next year, but also Georgia State and Old Dominion. The conference will add the College of Charleston though and surely look to replenish once again.
Albany, Stony Brook, Davidson, Elon, Coastal Carolina, and Furman were all linked to the CAA this past fall.
