Drake hires the former Utah head coach to help lead their program in the right direction.

USA TODAY Sports

Drake has found their replacement for Mark Phelps and its Gonzaga assistant Ray Giacoletti.Giacolletti will take over the Missouri Valley program that went 15-17 this past year.

Giacoletti has been a head coach at North Dakota State, Eastern Washington and Utah. He took over for Rick Majerus at Utah and went 29-6 his first year with a Sweet 16 birth. The final two years he failed to put a winning product on the court for the Utes.

Overall Giacolleti has a 171-123 record as a head coach. He's also lead three different teams to the postseason over his 10 years at the helm. He has been in the Missouri Valley before as an assistant at Illinois State in the late 80s.

Drake went to the NCAA tournament in 2008 and has not been back. The birth in 2008 is just the one appearance for the Bulldogs in over 40 years.

Giacoletti is the twenty-seventh head coach in program history.
