Coaching Carousel: Marist Hires Jeff Bower

Marist tabs a NBA front office veteran to lead their program. The Red Foxes will be looking for their first winning campaign since 2007-08.

USA TODAY Sports

In a bit of an off beat move, Marist has named Dallas Mavericks scout Jeff Bower as their next head coach. Bower is most well known for being the New Orleans Hornets general manager for six years and becoming the team's interim head coach during the 2009-10 season, leading the team to a 34-39 record.

Bower does have history at Marist, as he was an assistant coach for the Red Foxes from 1986 to 1995. He was also an assistant at Penn State and Saint Francis before hist time at Marist.

Bower will take over for Chuck Martin, who spent five years at the helm after taking over for Matt Brady. Martin never had a winning season for the MAAC school and the team even went 1-29 in 2009-10. The Red Foxes went 10-21 this past year and are slated to return every key contributor except Devin Price (13.7 ppg).
