Coaching Carousel: G.G. Smith to Take Over Loyola

Loyola (MD) keeps it in the family, hiring assistant G.G. Smith as their next head coach.

Loyola (MD) has decided to hire from within. The Greyhounds have named assistant G.G. Smith as the successor to Jimmy Patsos who left for the opening at Siena last week.

Smith is the son of Texas Tech head coach Tubby Smith and has been with the Greyhounds for the past six seasons. Smith played for Georgia and is a 1999 graduate of the university.

Before coming to Loyola Smith was a graduate assistant at Kentucky and was also an assistant at Tennessee Tech, Armstrong Atlantic State, and Johns Hopkins.

Although Loyola is currently in the MAAC, the Greyhounds will not see their former coach next year. Loyola will transition to the Patriot League, along with Boston University, on July 1. Loyola actually defeated Boston University in the first round of this year's CIT.

The Greyhound made it to the semifinals of the CIT this year, but Smith's squad will graduate five seniors.
