Earlier this month the resignation of legendary UNC Asheville coach Eddie Biedenbach came as a bit of a shock to Bulldogs fans. Biedenbach took a job near his Wrightsville Beach home to join Buzz Peterson's staff at UNC Wilmington.

The Bulldogs are set to announce the promotion of assistant coach Nick McDevitt to replace the 17 year tenured who lead Asheville to three NCAA tournament appearances.

McDevitt has been with the UNCA staff since for the past 12 years and is an alum of the school. He's 34 years old and beat out Charlotte assistant Ryan Odom and former Ball State coach Billy Taylor for the job.

UNC Asheville's new head coach will officially be introduced at a press conference at 1 PM today. Many members of the team and community openly campaigned for McDevitt.

Asheville was 16-16 last year and returns key players D.J. Cunningham and Kyle Hornsby. The Bulldogs tab a current assistant and alum to take over the staff for the perennial Big South contender.
