Coaching Carousel: Siena to Hire Loyola's Jimmy Patsos as Next Head Coach

The long time Loyola Greyhounds coach will stay in the MAAC to take over a struggling Siena program.

Richard Mackson-US PRESSWIRE

Siena will name Jimmy Patsos as their next head coach this week. Patsos will take over for Mitch Buonaguro who never had a winning season in three years with the Saints.

Patsos has been in the MAAC with Loyola for the last nine years. He had five winning season at the Baltimore school, including two twenty-plus win seasons over the past two years. The Greyhounds made the NCAA tournament last year.

Loyola will actually be leaving the MAAC for the Patriot League this year, so Patsos will not run into his old school often. Siena is also rumored to be on the shortlist of candidates for the Atlantic 10 conference. The 15,000 seat Times Union Center in Albany seems to be a driving factor for the Saints rumored move to the conference.

Robert Morris' Andy Toole and VCU's Mike Rhoades were also interviewed for the Saints' opening. Patsos is 46 and was an assistant under Gary Williams at Maryland before coming to Loyola in 2004.
