Coaching Carousel: Old Dominion to Hire American's Jeff Jones

The former Virginia and American head coach will head back to the Commonwealth to take over the future Conference USA program.

Old Dominion University will name former Virginia and American coach Jeff Jones as the next coach of the Monarchs to replace Blaine Taylor. Taylor was fired mid-season and replaced by interim coach Jim Corrigan.

The move comes as a bit of a surprise as ODU was said to be interviewing Dennis Felton, Jerry Wainwright, Andy Enfield, and Steve Robinson.

Jones has been at American for 13 years and has guided the Eagles to nine winning seasons. His Patriot League squad did make the NCAA tournament in 2008 and 2009, and won more than 20 games in 2011 and 2012, but the Eagles went just 10-20 this past year.

Old Dominion will officially become a member of Conference USA on July 1. Jone takes over a squad that went 5-25 this past year and had seven freshman on its roster.
