Coaching Carousel: Texas State to Hire Stephen F. Austin's Danny Kaspar

The soon-to-be Sun Belt school steals a coach away from an in-state rival.

USA TODAY Sports

Texas State has made a steal in grabbing Danny Kaspar away from in-state rival Stephen F. Austin to replace Doug Davalos. Kaspar is expected to be announced as the new head coach for the Bobcats at 2PM today in San Marcos.

Kaspar has spent thirteen seasons with Stephen F. Austin and has not had a losing season since 2004-05. He lead the Lumberjacks to the NCAA tournament in 2009 after grabbing the Southland title. The Lumberjacs were 27-5 this past year and made it to the NIT. Over the past six seasons Kaspar's squads have averaged 23 wins per season.

Davalos 92-107 in his seven years at Texas State, none of which were winning seasons.

After one year in the Western Athletic Conference, Texas State will transition to the Sun Belt conference next season. Kaspar should know the conference well, as the Bobcats were in the Southland Conference before moving this year.
