Texas Pan-American has decided to replace former head coach Ryan Marks with a veteran among the coaching ranks, Dan Hipsher. Hipsher spent the past several year as the associate head coach at Alabama, but has head coaching experience at the Division I level.
Hipsher was the head coach at Stetson for two years before moving on to Akron in 1995. In nine years with the Zips he was 112-137 and never lead the Zips past the MAC quarterfinals. He was the 1997-98 MAC Coach of the Year, however, after leading the Zips to a nine win improvement with a 17-10 record.
Since leaving Akron in 2004, Hipsher has been an assistant Arkansas and South Florida before joining Anthony Grant's staff in 2009.
Texas-Pan American is set to join the Western Athletic Conference on July 1, after playing in the Great West for the past several seasons. UTPA will hold a press conference at 4PM Friday to introduce their new coach.
