Mississippi Valley State head coach Chico Potts has been indefinitely suspended by the university. Potts was arrested earlier in July on charges of domestic violence.
School spokeswoman Jennifer Freeman issued a statement on Coach Potts' status:
Effective immediately, Coach Potts has been suspended with pay. This suspension will remain in effect until the university completes its investigation. Associate basketball coach Marcus Thomas will serve as acting head basketball coach and lead the basketball program during the suspension.
Potts just finished his first season with the Delta Devils winning 5 games, all in conference play. MVSU finished 5-23 overall on the year.
Marcus Thomas, who takes over the program in the interim, has served as the head coach at Marion Military Institute and as an assistant at Jackson State, Millsaps College, and Tougaloo College.
Potts inherited a program, from now Morehead State head coach Sean Woods, that went 21-13 and made the NCAA tournament in 2012.
