It seems that Hartford's good run last season has cause quite a stir for America East basketball. For the first time in school history, the Hawks have been invited to play in the 2013 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament. Add that to the ESPN Tip-Off announced earlier this month and it seem that even though they fell to the six seed in the America East Championship, they made an impact on someone somewhere.
Going into the 2013-14 season, the Hawks finally have an upperclassman team, comprised of mainly sophomores and juniors, after having the 11th youngest team in the nation last year. While it looks like Coach Gallagher hasn't picked up any fresh faces, one can only hope that they will have the experience to make a name for themselves.
As part of the event, Hartford will travel to Fairfield on November 13 and to Louisville to take on the Cardinals November 19.
The on-site tournament includes six teams other than Hartford: Belmont University, Fairfield University, Hofstra University, Holy Cross, Louisville, UNC and Richmond. Hartford's game against Hofstra will take place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT on November 22 as part of a four game slate. The Hawks will then play either Belmont or Holy Cross to wrap up the Springfield bracket the next day.
Ticket's go on sale September 6th and can be purchased via Ticketmaster. The full schedule can be viewed at halloffametipoff.com.
