James Madison announced today that sophomore guard Andre Nation will be suspended for the first fifteen games of the season.
In a press release from the school, JMU Athletic Director Jeff Bourne commented on the suspension:
"It is an unfortunate situation. I feel for the coaches, our student-athletes and many other folks who are invested in our program. We’re disappointed in Andre and hope that he is able to learn from this incident."
Head coach Matt Brady also left his remarks:
"We’re disappointed in Andre’s actions, and we hope that he learns a life lesson, that he is part of something greater than himself and is accountable to his team and to the entire JMU community."
The 6'5 Nation averaged 9.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 1.3 blocks a year ago and was on the CAA's All-Freshman team.He will not be eligible to return until the Dukes January 7 game against the College of Charleston.
The Dukes are the defending CAA Champions and open their season November 8 at Virginia.
