Florida Gulf Coast (8-7, 2-0) moved to 2-0 in conference play, while Lipscomb (5-8, 0-2) moved to 0-2 in a 75-62 affair in Fort Myers tonight. Brett Comer rung in the new year with 24 points on the night in a 9 for 15 performance from the field. Eric McKnight and Chase Fieler both grabbed 10 rebounds apiece for the Eagles. Martin Smith lead the Bison with 20 points was just 2 for 9 from downtown.
FGCU will play their first conference road game Sunday at Stetson, while Lipscomb will host North Florida on Saturday evening.
Jarvis Haywood lead the way with 22 points as four Dolphins finished in double-figures to lead Jacksonville (5-8, 1-1) over Kennesaw State (3-12, 0-2) 86-66. Haywood also added 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Orlando Coleman lead the Owls with 17 points on the evening.
Jacksonville will look to build momentum when they visit Northern Kentucky on Saturday. Kennesaw State will try to snap their seven game skid against East Tennessee State on Saturday as well.
In the game of the night Northern Kentucky (5-9, 1-1) grabbed their first conference win of the year in overtime against a rather hot Stetson (3-11, 1-1) team. Jake Giesler's tip in with three seconds left was the winner for the Norse. Jordan Jackson lead NKU with 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Kentwan Smith and Willie Green both had 16 points for the Hatters.
Mercer (10-5, 1-1) made this look a little better in the paper at the end, but the Atlantic Sun favorites got manhandled by North Florida (8-7, 2-0) tonight. Dallas Moore was the high scorer for the Osprey with 21 points on the evening. Mercer's starters only combined for 16 points and shot 6-for-23 from the field, while Darious Moten and Ike Nwamu combined for 41 points off the bench.
The Bears will look to rebound when they host USC Upstate on Saturday and North Florida will head to Lipscomb.
