The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs have been on quite a roll lately winning six straight and shooting up to tenth in our Mid-Major Madness Power 15. Despite everything to be happy about in Ruston, some bad news came down today regarding leading scorer Raheem Appleby:
Louisiana Tech leading scorer Raheem Appleby out 6-8 weeks with a severe ankle sprain. Significant blow to a potential NCAA tourney squad.
— Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanESPN) January 15, 2014
Appleby was averaging 16.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists for the now 14-3 Bulldogs, who are 2-0 in Conference USA play. Appleby was considered to be one of the frontrunners for conference player of the year thus far in the season.
Michael White will now lead on sophomore guard Alex Hamilton (15 ppg) and senior forward Chris Anderson (10.6 ppg) to lead Louisiana Tech in Appleby's absence.
The Bulldogs have two road games this week, first against Tulane (9-8,1-1) tomorrow and against fellow Conference USA favorite Southern Miss (14-3,1-1) on Sunday.
If everything pans out favorably for Appleby then he could be back for the Conference USA Tournament in early in March.
