Entering the season, our very own Ben Miraski was probably the only one outside of West Point, N.Y. who thought Army would win the Patriot League. Thursday was a good start to proving him right as the Black Knights scored a solid victory over Lafayette, 85-66. Tanner Plomb and Kyle Wilson each poured in 24 points for Army to get the win.
Lafayette's last two games have been rough, losing by 32 to Seton Hall last Friday and then 19 on Thursday. Seth Hinrichs has missed the Leopards last three games, all losses, and the Leopards have failed to hit 70 in any of those games. He's the key to this offense and until he gets back, Lafayette will continue to struggle.
Boston University's Patriot League debut could have gone a little better than it did -- 17 turnovers is uncharacteristic of a team with two point guards playing heavy minutes -- but all things considered, Joe Jones should be very happy with how his team went out and played against the Holy Cross Crusaders. Maurice Watson's 12 points and six assists led the way.

Lehigh and Colgate played one of the best games of the night as they battled for an extra 10 minutes before a winner could be determined. Lehigh, led by Tim Kempton (25 points,13 rebounds) and Mackey McKnight (17 points, 7 assists, 5 steals), stayed aggressive in the extra frames and got a big win on the road, 88-81.
Kempton scored nine points in the extra sessions while McKnight made 7-of-8 free throws in the second overtime to salt the game away. The poise of those two, along with contributions from Jesse Chuku (18 points) and Corey Schaefer (16 points) proved how much fire power this team has.
For Colgate, the Red Raiders have now lost back-to-back double-overtime games. All five starters scored in double figures, led by Murphy Burnatowski's game-high 26 points. Luke Roh did a little bit of everything, scoring 11 while adding nine rebounds and six assists.
Other Patriot League Action
- The Bucknell Bison fell for a third straight game, this time to the American Eagles at home, 67-57. Bucknell sat atop a lot of people's rankings just a few weeks ago, but have really fallen as the calendar has switched to 2014. Tony Wroblicky finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds, 6 blocks, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Eye-popping.
- Loyola won its first Patriot League contest as well, knocking off the Navy Midshipmen in overtime, 63-57. Denzel Brito drew a charge to protect a two-point lead then buried a three to make it a five-pointer. Dylon Cormier scored a game-high 20 points and added four steals. Navy was led by Thurgood Wynn's 15 points in regulation and Brandon Venturini's 11.
