Atlantic Sun Recap: Kennesaw State, Mercer, Jacksonville and Northern Kentucky Victorious

It was another loaded night in the Atlantic Sun and the crazy start to conference play continued with some upsets and great games all-around.

Either Jacksonville Dolphins were going to get their first road win of the year or the first Atlantic Sun win of the year for Lipscomb. In the end it was a big night and a big block  from Jarvis Haywood that would propel Jacksonville to a 2-2 Atlantic Sun mark. Haywood would finish the night with 23 points and 4 rebounds, but his block on a Lipscomb three pointer as time expired was his biggest contribution. RJ Slawson also threw in 16 points and grabbed 9 boards for the Dolphins.

The Smith twins had an uncharacteristically bad evening for Lipscomb, combining for only 17 points. Josh Williams would pick up the slack for Casey Alexander's squad and finish the matinee with 28 points and 9 rebounds.

Lipscomb will keep searching for their first conference win in a trip to East Tennessee State Thursday, while Jacksonville will host Stetson on the same night.

The Atlantic Sun Tournament ineligible Norse of Northern Kentucky continue to play spoiler in the conference and did so tonight knocking North Florida out of the undefeated ranks. Four members of the Norse finished in double-figures lead by Jordan Jackson with 16 points. North Florida got 15 points each from Travis Wallace, Dallas Moore, and Jalen Nesbitt.

Northern Kentucky will look to keep momentum going with a road trip to USC Upstate on Thursday. A visit to Dunk City awaits the North Florida Osprey the same evening.

Langston Hall showed why he's in the running for Atlantic Sun Player of the Year as the Mercer Bears' point guard scored 19 points and added 4 rebounds and 3 assists in a solid win tonight. The preseason ASun favorites needed the win after losing to North Florida last week and only beating USC Upstate by two points this past weekend.

A.J. Meriweather put together quite the game for East Tennessee State with 20 points and 9 rebounds. He'll look for his team to rebound with a visit from Lipscomb Thursday. Mercer gets a Friday night showdown with in-state rival Kennesaw State.

No one told interim head coach Jimmy Lallathin that he was taking over a struggling Kennesaw State Owls squad. The young coach came out like a ball of energy and so did his team as the Owls shot out to an 18 point halftime lead over a solid USC Upstate team. Delbert Love would pace the Owls in a 68-58 win with 18 points on the night.

Upstate star Torrey Craig did not look himself tonight and finished with just 7 points. The Spartans will look to rebound against Northern Kentucky on Thursday.
