Jeff Jones is trying to rebuild the Old Dominion basketball program and use the Monarchs trip to the CBI semifinals as a bit of a catalyst heading into this season. Jones received some bad news late this week though when he was notified that junior college transfer Javonte Douglas would be suspended indefinitely.
Douglas is being suspended as part of a physical altercation in the university's dorms on August 30. Galaisha Goodhope and Chelisa Painter were also suspended from the women's team for the same "violation of team rules".
Douglas is a 6'7 wing from the College of Central Florida who was expected to be a contributor for the Monarchs this season.
ODU will tip off their basketball season November 15 against former CAA rival UNC Wilmington. The Monarchs were picked to finish fourth in Conference USA earlier this week in the CUSA coaches poll. Aaron Bacote was selected as a preseason all-conference performer as well.
