Jim Baron has a big enough uphill battle in Buffalo this year as he looks to recharge his Golden Griffins squad and now it looks like the hill might be a little steeper.
Must Reads
Canisius announced today that they will be without 6'7 sophomore forward Phil Valenti for "a few weeks" due to an ankle injury. Valenti appeared in all 34 games a year ago for the Golden Griffins, starting four for Baron. He ended up averaging 5 points and nearly 4 rebounds per contest and was expected to be a big part of Baron's plans going forward.
Perhaps Valenti can return for when the Griffins take on local rivals Buffalo (November 29) and Niagara (December 6) given Baron's timeline of "a few weeks".
Baron also announced the two game suspension of redshirt freshman Jermaine Crumpton. The 6'6 local product will miss the Griffins' exhibition games against Ryerson and Daemen College. He'll return for the regular season opener November 15 against America East power Vermont.
