NCAA College Basketball AP Poll Week 1: Say Goodbye to Harvard

Harvard's shocking loss Sunday to Holy Cross not only caused the Crimson to drop from the AP Top 25, it kept them from getting any votes at all. But a number of mid-major teams are still packing the ballots.

Kentucky held onto the top spot in the AP Poll this week, despite being played close by Buffalo for about 30 minutes Sunday. The Wildcats grabbed 49 of the 64 first place votes. Arizona (4), Wisconsin (7) and Duke (4) also earned some love from the voters, and finished two-four in the poll.

Wichita State is the top mid-major coming in at No. 11 after beating New Mexico State in its opener. Gonzaga is at No. 13 and VCU is at No. 15.

Harvard fell out of the rankings after losing to Holy Cross by one. The Crimson had been No. 25. They failed to receive any votes from the panel this week.

Also picking up votes in the poll at the mid-major level were Louisiana Tech, Dayton, George Washington, BYU, UTEP, Northern Iowa and Stephen F. Austin.
