Gulf Coast Showcase
The marquee event of yesterday was certainly the Gulf Coast Showcase final between Green Bay and Florida Gulf Coast. The absence of Jamail Jones may have finally gotten to the Eagles last night as Green Bay started the game on a 15-0 run and never looked back in a 59-45 win. Of course Keifer lead the way with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals.
The other story of the day was the performance of Chavaughn Lewis is a 68-64 7th place game win for Marist. Lewis had 28 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals for the Red Foxes.
Hawaii took the 5th place game against East Carolina 75-73, while Evansville stayed hot in a 79-72 win over SanFrancisco in the 3rd place game.
Cancun Challenge
Northern Iowa totally dismantled previous unbeaten Northwestern 61-42 to win the Riviera Division of the Cancun Challenge. Miami (OH) fell to Virginia Tech 78-63 of the consolation game of that bracket.
In the Mayan Divsion North Florida took home the hardware by downing Elon 72-65 thanks to another big night from Dallas Moore with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Morgan State won the consolation game against Liberty 51-50.
Battle 4 Atlantis Chattanooga
Yesterday was the tip off for Battle of Atlantis in the Bahamas and the Bahamas of Tennessee...Chattanooga. The host Mocs took down Robert Morris 61-46 behind 13 points each from Casey Jones, Justin Tuoyo, and Greg Pryor. Meanwhile in the second game Coastal Carolina beat Louisiana-Monroe 61-48. The results set up a nice Big South/SoCon showdown on Thursday between the Chanticleers and the Mocs.
