Buzz Peterson is out after four seasons of being the head coach for the UNC Wilmington Seahawks. In a press release from the school UNCW stated:
The contract of fourth-year UNCW men’s basketball Head Coach Buzz Peterson has been terminated, UNCW Athletic Director Jimmy Bass announced Tuesday.
Bass has appointed assistant coach Eddie Biedenbach as interim head coach. A national search for Peterson’s replacement will begin immediately.
Peterson was 42-82 in his time in Wilmington and just 30-53 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The former North Carolina star has been the head coach for Appalachian State (twice), Tulsa, Tennessee, and Coastal Carolina.
Interim head coach Eddie Biedenbach was the head coach for UNC Asheville until he decided to "semi-retire" this year and join UNCW as a special assistant.
A proud basketball school, UNC Wilmington won CAA titles in 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2006 under Jerry Wainwright and Brad Brownell. Since their departure the Seahawks have just one winning season in the last seven years.
