Coaching Carousel: South Dakota to Hire Nebraska's Craig Smith

South Dakota has found their replacement for Joey James and Dave Boots in Nebraska assistant Craig Smith. Smith brings plenty of regional coaching knowledge to the Coyotes.

South Dakota decided after their Summit League exit this year to move on from Joey James who took over for Coyotes coach Dave Boots who hired late in the offseason. It is not being reported that James will be replaced by Nebraska Corn Huskers assistant Craig Smith.

Smith has been with Tim Miles for quite some time. He joined the Huskers as an assistant in 2012 and was an assistant at Colorado State for the five seasons before that. Before coming to Colorado State Smith was the head coach at NAIA Mayville State where he took a 1-25 to an eventual national championship game. In 2007 Smith was the NAIA National Coach of the Year.

Smith is a Minnesota native and is a 1996 graduate of North Dakota. He has also spent time in the region as an assistant at Northern State, Minot State, and the Director of Basketball Operations at North Dakota State.
