The America East Conference was won by Vermont during the regular season, and there is a good reason why if you look at the award winners. Three Catamounts players placed on the All-Conference First Team, led by Brian Voelkel who also took home Defensive Player of the Year honors in the league.
The top award went to Vermont's chief rival for the chance to dance this March. Jameel Warney, just the seventh sophomore to win the Player of the Year award, shot nearly 63 percent during the season. He averaged 14.7 points and nearly eight rebounds per game for the second-place Seawolves.
UMBC's Rodney Elliott joined Voelkel and Warney as unanimous choices for their awards. The Retrievers' freshman earned Rookie of the Year honors, while also landing on the third team All-Conference squad.
