According to CBS Sports' Gary Parrish, Southern Miss Golden Eagles head coach Donnie Tyndall is expected to be accept the open head coaching position at Tennessee. The Volunteers job opened up unexpectedly last week when Cuonzo Martin opted to leave Knoxville for the vacancy at Cal.
Rumors have swirled that the Vols first reached out to to a handful of "high profile" candidates but there was no mutual interest. Early on Monday Tennessee's search seemed to focus on current Louisiana Tech head coach Michael White, with the Bulldogs' head coach rejecting the Vols.
Tyndall took the job at Southern Miss in 2012 and went 56-17 with two NIT appearances in his two years in Hattiesburg. Before his stint with the Golden Eagles Tyndall was the head coach at Morehead State and an assistant at Middle Tennessee State, Idaho and LSU prior to that. He has been with to the NCAA Tournament twice, both with Morehead State (2009, 2011).
