Torrey Craig: Road To The Pros - The Beginning

Follow USC Upstate's Torrey Craig as he transitions from his time in Spartanburg to the professional level.

Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

USC Upstate's Torrey Craig just finished one of the most prolific careers in school and conference history. He leaves Spartanburg as the program recorder holder for rebounds, and was second all time in points. The Great Falls, S.C native lead the Spartans to two post season berths and wins over Virginia Tech and South Carolina this season.

His achievements have largely gone unnoticed on the national level, but he recently earned a well deserved spot on the Lou Henson Mid-Major All American Team. Craig has also caught the attention NBA scouts. Now on the path to the professional level, Craig will be doing an exclusive interview series here at Mid-Major Madness, giving insight on his "Road To The Pros."

Although the process has only just begun, Craig checked in for a brief part one.

On his career at USC Upstate:

"I’ve learned a lot from the coaching staff in my time here. I appreciate all the support from the fans in both the good and bad times - it’s been incredible. Overall it was just a great experience and I wouldn’t have had it any other way than Upstate."

Since the conclusion of the 2013-14 season:

"I've been doing some more weights - been in the weight room getting ready for the next level. Also I’ve been working on some ball handling and stuff of that nature so I can be ready for the workouts.

On coming out of smaller programs in both high school (Great Falls, SC) and college:

"In my position, you really have no choice but to embrace it. I realize I won’t get as many opportunites. You just have to keep working and make the most of them."

Craig has yet to sign with an agent but will be checking in with us here at Mid-Major Madness in a couple more weeks for a more comprehensive Part 2 of Road To The Pros. Stay tuned.
