It seems like some schools spaz out a bit after publicly whiffing on their first choice for their head coaching vacancy. Southern Miss isn't quite to the level of Marshall's coaching search but the Golden Eagles moved quickly to hire former UTEP and Nebraska head coach Doc Sadler after missing on Brad Underwood earlier in the day.
Underwood decided to stay at Stephen F. Austin after turning down Southern Miss and Marshall. It was thought that Southern Miss' second choice was Steve Prohm from Murray State and their third choice was Southeastern Louisiana head coach Jay Ladner.
Sadler has been an assistant at Iowa State after being fired at Nebraska in 2012. Sadler was a head coach for eight years and made the NCAA Tournament once at UTEP in his first year. All in all he has a 149-107 record as a head coach and has made four NIT appearances. Sadler has also been the head coach at Arkansas-Fort Smith.
