When the dust was settled this year Niagara's Antoine Mason finished the year second on the national scoring list with 25.6 points per game, trailing only Creighton's Doug McDermott. Today it was announced that Mason, who graduated earlier this month, plans to transfer and will be eligible immediately.
Head coach Chris Casey released a statement earlier today:
"I know Antoine enjoyed playing here, and I'm sure this was a difficult decision for him and his family. Antoine played a big role in our basketball program for the past four years and we are proud that he earned his bachelor's degree from Niagara University. Now it is time for us to move forward with the players who are committed to continuing the tremendous legacy of the Niagara University Purple Eagles."
The Purple Eagles were just 7-26 this year after Joe Mihalich left for Hofstra and several players transferred. There is no word yet on where Mason may end up.
